The feud took place 10 years ago in 2013, when the Cyrus told Rolling Stone that the video for her hit track, Wrecking Ball, which included a lot of nudity, was inspired by Sinead’s song Sinead’s Nothing Compares 2 U.
Miley Ray Cyrus (/ˈmaɪli ˈsaɪrəs/ MY-lee SY-rəs; born Destiny Hope Cyrus, November 23, 1992) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Dubbed the “Pop Chameleon”, she has been recognized for her musical versatility and continual reinvention in her sound and style.[3] Cyrus has been referred to as the “Teen Queen” of 2000s pop culture[4] and regarded as one of the few examples of a child star with a successful career as an adult.[5] Her accolades include nineteen Teen Choice Awards, four World Music Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, one People’s Choice Award, a GLAAD Media Award, and 8 Guinness World Records. She has made the Time 100 list in 2008 and 2014, Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2014 and 2021, appeared on Billboard’s Greatest of All Time Artists chart in 2019, and was ranked as the ninth greatest Billboard 200 female artist of all time.[6]
It appears Sinead was not impressed with the comparison or the video at the time, which saw Miley, who was 20 at the time, swinging naked on a wrecking ball – a far cry from her Hannah Montana days.
This prompted Sinead to pen a public letter to Miley. In it, she said: “Dear Miley, I wasn’t going to write this letter, but today i’ve been dodging phone calls from various newspapers who wished me to remark upon your having said in Rolling Stone your Wrecking Ball video was designed to be similar to the one for Nothing Compares … So this is what I need to say … And it is said in the spirit of motherliness and with love.

Cyrus auditioned for the Disney Channel television series Hannah Montana when she was thirteen years old.[40] She auditioned for the role of the title character’s best friend, but was called to audition for the lead role instead.[40] Despite being denied the part at first because she was “too small and too young” for the role,[41] she was later cast as the lead because of her singing and acting abilities.[42] The series premiered in March 2006 to the largest audience for a Disney Channel program[43] and quickly ranked among the highest-rated series on basic cable.[44] The success of the series led to Cyrus being labeled a “teen idol”.[34][45] She toured with the Cheetah Girls as Hannah Montana in September 2006 and performed songs from the show’s first season.[46] Walt Disney Records released a soundtrack credited to Cyrus’s character in October of that year.[47] The record was a commercial success, topping the Billboard 200 chart in the United States; it went on to sell over three million copies worldwide.[48] With the release of the soundtrack, Cyrus became the first act within the Walt Disney Company to have deals in television, film, consumer products, and music.[45]
“I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way “cool” to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos.
